On Saturday night, the legendary singer returned to the stage for her first full headlining concert in six years, opening a brand-new residency at the Paris La Défense Arena in Nanterre, just outside Paris. Before a crowd of 30,000 adoring fans, Dion was visibly overcome with emotion, holding back tears from the very start of the show.

The tears came pouring out during her performance of “On ne change pas,” as the crowd erupted in thunderous cheers around her. Dion paused, wiped her eyes, and spoke directly to the audience.
“These are tears of joy, of course. I’m so happy to see you,” she said. “I promised myself I wouldn’t cry. I don’t keep my promises, but I’m so happy to see all of you. I missed you. I’m going to sing for you without crying.”

The concert marked a monumental milestone for the 58-year-old superstar. It was her first complete show since the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly cut short her Courage World Tour in March 2020 — a tour she had been forced to end just as the world shut down.
But the pandemic was only part of the story. In 2022, Dion revealed she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes severe muscle stiffness and painful spasms. The disorder has made both mobility and singing extremely difficult for her in the years since, and it forced her to step away from the stage entirely.
Speaking Candidly About Her Health
Later in the show, Dion addressed her health battle head-on, speaking openly about her diagnosis and what it has taken to get back to performing.
“Thank you so much for coming,” she told the crowd. “If this is your first time in Paris, I hope you fall in love with it the way I did. Finally, it’s amazing that we are all here together. I promised I would come back, that I would return to the stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing live.”
A Tribute to Her Fans
She also nodded to one of her most iconic songs while thanking her supporters directly.
“Thank you so much for your support, for your patience, and if I may say so, I am everything I am because you loved me.”
