The gym had been my sanctuary for a year — a place to sweat out the stress of a job I hated and a love life that didn’t exist. I came every night at 9 PM, when the crowds thinned and the serious people remained. The ones who weren’t there to be seen. The ones who were there to bleed.
She was one of them.
I didn’t know her name. I only knew her routine — deadlifts, squats, box jumps until her muscles shook. She was tall, with dark hair she tied back in a severe ponytail, and a body that looked carved from the same stone as the weights she lifted. She wore minimal clothing — sports bras and compression shorts that showed off the muscles in her back, her thighs, her arms. And she watched me. Every night. Across the weight room. In the mirror. In the hallway to the showers.
I told myself I was imagining it. That the tension was one-sided. That my attraction to her was just loneliness, just the endorphins, just the steam of the locker room playing tricks on my mind.
I was wrong.
Tonight, I had stayed later than usual. The gym officially closed at 10, but the night manager knew me, knew I always cleaned up after myself, knew I would lock up properly. I finished my workout, showered, and wrapped myself in the large white bath towel the gym provided. My sports bra was still damp beneath — I had been too eager to get under the hot water, too flushed from the workout, too aware of her eyes on me during my final set.
I was adjusting the towel, making sure it covered everything, when I felt the shift in the air. The steam seemed to thicken. The silence became absolute. And then I saw her.
She was leaning against the locker. In nothing but a small white towel wrapped low on her hips. Water dripped from her dark hair onto her shoulders, her chest, the defined muscles of her stomach. Her arms were crossed, her eyes dark with an expression that made my stomach flip — hungry, predatory, completely unapologetic.
“You’re here late,” I managed, my voice barely steady.
She pushed off the locker and walked toward me. Slow. Each step deliberate. Her muscles moved beneath her skin with a grace that was completely devastating. She stopped directly in front of me, close enough that I could smell her — sweat and soap and something darker, something that made my thighs press together.
She reached out and took the small gym towel from my trembling hands. She used it to slowly dry her own dripping hair, her eyes never leaving mine. The gesture was intimate, possessive, completely unnecessary — she had her own towel, her own skin to dry. But she used mine. Marked it. Claimed it.
Then she dropped the towel and reached out to adjust the slipping bath towel on my shoulder. Her fingers lingered on my bare skin, tracing the edge of where the fabric met flesh.
“You keep looking at me like you want to know what’s under this towel,” she said, her voice so deep and rough it felt like gravel against silk, like it came from somewhere primal and completely uncontrolled. “Every night. Across the weight room. In the mirror. When you think I’m not paying attention.” Her hand slid from my shoulder to the edge of the towel, her fingers playing with the fold. “And I’ve been looking at you like I want to know what’s under yours. Like I want to peel away every layer of fabric and sweat and politeness and find what’s underneath.”
“Please,” I whispered, though I didn’t know what I was asking for.
“The locker room’s empty,” she continued, her voice dropping even lower, rougher, more emotional. “The gym’s closed. And I’m done waiting for you to make the first move. Done imagining what you look like when you come apart. Done touching myself in the shower thinking about your mouth, your hands, the way you bite your lip when you’re concentrating.” She gripped the edge of my towel, her knuckles white. “So drop the towel, beautiful. Or I will.”
I didn’t drop it. But my fingers loosened, and she felt it. She pulled, and the large bath towel fell away, leaving me in nothing but my damp sports bra and underwear. She made a sound — half groan, half prayer — and then her small towel was falling too, and we were both bare, both exposed, both completely vulnerable in the steamy locker room.
“Fuck,” she whispered, her eyes devouring me. “Even better than I imagined. And I’ve imagined this a thousand times.”
She pushed me back against the locker, her body pressing against mine, her mouth finding my neck, my collarbone, the sensitive place where my pulse hammered. Her hands were rough — calloused from the weights, strong from the training — and they explored me with a confidence that spoke of months of planning.
“Tell me your name,” I gasped, my fingers tangling in her wet hair.
“Riley,” she murmured against my breast, her tongue finding my nipple through the damp fabric of my sports bra. “And I’ve wanted you since the first night you walked in here. Wearing that yellow tank top. Looking lost and determined and completely fuckable.”
“Riley,” I moaned, arching into her touch. “Please. I need you. I need this. I need—”
She gave me everything. She lifted me onto the bench between the lockers, spreading my legs, kneeling between them. She ripped my underwear with a violence that made me cry out, then replaced the fabric with her mouth, her tongue, her fingers. She explored me with the same focus she brought to her workouts — intense, relentless, completely overwhelming.
“Look at me,” she commanded, her eyes locking on mine. “Don’t close your eyes. I want to watch you. I want to see your face when you finally let go.”
I watched. I watched her mouth move against me, her fingers slide inside me, her eyes darken with satisfaction as she felt me tighten around her. And when I finally came apart, it was with her name breaking from my lips, my body convulsing, my fingers white-knuckled on the locker behind me.
Afterward, she held me on the bench, her heartbeat steady against my back, her fingers tracing patterns on my damp arm. “I should go,” she whispered. “The night manager—”
“Comes at midnight,” I finished, turning in her arms. “We have an hour.”
She smiled — slow, devastating, completely victorious. “Then I’m going to use every minute. Starting with finding out what you taste like when you’re not rushing.”
She did. Three times before the night manager arrived, she took me apart — on the bench, against the shower wall, on the floor of the locker room. By the time we dressed, I was exhausted, glowing, and completely hers.
We still go to that gym. Every night at 9 PM. But now, we leave together. We shower together. And sometimes, when the locker room is empty, we don’t shower at all.
Some workouts change your body. Others change everything.
