The Cabin

We’d been best friends since freshman year of college. Eight years of shared apartments, shared secrets, shared late-night talks about boys who never quite measured up. This weekend was supposed to be simple — just the two of us, a rented cabin in the mountains, wine, and zero responsibilities.

The rain started on the second night.

By midnight the power was out. The only light came from the fireplace. I was sitting on the bed in one of her oversized flannel shirts, legs crossed, watching her stand in front of the flames. She wore a thin white tank top and sleep shorts. One strap had already slipped down her shoulder. The firelight made her skin look golden.

She knew I was staring.

“We’ve been best friends for eight years,” I said quietly. “This weekend was supposed to be normal.”

She didn’t answer. She just turned her head and looked at me the way she’d been looking at me all day — longer, heavier, like something had shifted.

I stood up. The wooden floor was cold under my bare feet. I walked to her slowly. When I stopped, we were close enough that I could feel the heat of the fire on one side and the heat of her body on the other.

“Tell me to stop looking at you like this,” I whispered.

She reached for my hand. Without a word she guided it under the hem of her tank top and placed my palm flat against the soft skin of her waist. Her stomach jumped under my touch.

Then she kissed me.

It started soft — the kind of kiss that could still be blamed on wine and loneliness. Then her tongue slid against mine and it stopped being soft. I backed her against the stone of the fireplace. The tank top strap fell the rest of the way down her arm. I pushed the fabric up, exposing her breasts to the firelight, and took one nipple into my mouth. She made a broken sound and tangled her fingers in my hair.

We sank to the thick rug in front of the fire. I pulled her tank top off completely. She did the same with my flannel. Skin against skin felt inevitable. She straddled my thigh and started moving — slow, deliberate rolls of her hips, the damp heat of her through the thin shorts dragging against my leg. I held her waist and watched her face in the firelight as she used me to get herself closer.

“Don’t stop,” she breathed.

I didn’t. I slid my hand into her shorts and found her already soaked. Two fingers pushed inside while my thumb circled her clit. She rode my hand and my thigh at the same time, head thrown back, mouth open. When she came it was quiet but violent — her whole body locking, thighs shaking, my name falling from her lips like a confession.

She didn’t give me time to recover.

She pushed me onto my back on the rug, yanked my underwear down, and put her mouth on me. There was nothing hesitant about it. She licked me like she’d been thinking about this for years — long, slow strokes followed by focused suction on my clit while two fingers worked inside me. I came hard against her tongue, hands fisted in the rug, the fire popping beside us.

We didn’t stop there.

She climbed over me again, this time lowering herself onto my mouth. I held her hips and ate her while she ground down, soft moans mixing with the sound of rain. When she came the second time she collapsed forward, catching herself on her hands, body trembling.

Later we moved to the bed. She lay on her side facing me. I slid two fingers back inside her, slow and deep, while my thumb kept steady pressure on her clit. She kissed me the entire time — lazy, open-mouthed kisses that turned desperate every time I curled my fingers just right. She came again with her forehead pressed to mine, eyes open, watching me watch her fall apart.

We stayed like that until the fire burned low.

In the morning the power was still out. She woke up first. I felt her get out of bed, then come back. She slid under the covers and pressed her naked body against my back. Her hand drifted between my legs again, fingers slipping through the wetness she’d left there the night before.

“We’re still best friends,” she whispered against my neck.

I turned in her arms and pulled her on top of me.

“Then prove it,” I said.

She did — slowly, thoroughly, until the rain finally stopped and the only sound left was our breathing.
