For decades, women have been handed a revolving door of “ideal” body standards — each one seemingly more impossible to achieve than the last. Then, somewhat unexpectedly, a curvy British model became the scientific answer to what people actually find attractive.
That model was Kelly Brook. And more than 30 years into a career where appearance can make or break you, she’s finally writing her own definition of beauty.
“The Body of a Porn Star and the Face of a Child”
Brook landed her first professional modeling job as a teenager — and she has never shied away from how uncomfortable that was. Looking back at those early photos, she told The Guardian: “I had the body of a porn star and the face of a child.”
“That was probably the appeal and why I was successful. That’s the sad truth of it for me.”
Her career quickly expanded far beyond modeling into acting, presenting, and television. Her personal life also drew relentless attention, thanks to high-profile relationships with actors Jason Statham and Billy Zane, and rugby player Danny Cipriani. But her weight became its own source of public fascination.
“Being skinny doesn’t mean I’m happy,” she told the Express. “When I had personal problems, I just used to lose my appetite. The break-up diet! I had quite a few of those.”
She later found lasting love with Jeremy Parisi, whom she married in July 2022. He has publicly praised her “amazing body.”
The “Scientifically Perfect Body” Label
Brook has repeatedly been described online as having the “world’s most scientifically perfect body” — a claim linked to research from the University of Texas examining which female proportions people find most attractive. The study found that “the primary predictor of female beauty is a relatively low BMI combined with a relatively curvaceous body.”
At the time, Brook’s reported measurements — 5’5″ tall, with a 99cm bust, 63cm waist, and 91cm hips — closely matched those proportions. The label stuck for years.
“Beached Whale”
But the title didn’t protect her from cruelty. In 2017, a bikini photo she shared online became a target for trolls, with some calling her a “beached whale” and “chubby.”
Brook responded on X: “I have lovely smart people follow me on social media who I like talking with! I will not let the negativity of a few stop me sharing.”
Speaking to the Express in 2024, she reflected: “I’m getting older, bigger. Everything changes, but I do think the industry is kinder these days. I don’t think it’s fashionable to judge women in the same way.”
“Celebrating Curves, Softness and Strength”
Now 46, Brook is an ambassador for Next’s fuller-bust lingerie range, appearing in a new campaign she says highlights “real women who live real lives.”
“When I was younger, my body felt like something that was constantly being judged,” she told Hello!. “Over time, I’ve learned to love my body rather than criticize it.”
“Confidence is about celebrating curves, softness and strength, and feeling proud of the woman you are today, not who you were 10 years ago.”
The latest photographs show Brook modeling lingerie more than three decades after her career began — and she says her mindset has completely shifted.
“For me now, body confidence is about acceptance and kindness,” she said. “I’ve lived in my body through so many different stages — personally and professionally — and I’ve learned that confidence doesn’t come from trying to fit a mold, it comes from feeling comfortable in your own skin.”
A Simpler Message
For a woman whose measurements were once used by others to define physical “perfection,” Brook’s message today is considerably simpler: confidence isn’t about fitting someone else’s formula. It’s about living in your own body — and finally feeling at home there. 💛
