Midnight Empty Gym, Trainer

Iron Temple Gym was a 24-hour facility in the warehouse district, the kind of place that attracted insomniacs, shift workers, and people who liked to lift heavy things in the dark. I’d been training with Sloane for three months — midnight sessions, because she said my “daytime form was embarrassing” and because the gym was empty at 12 AM.

Sloane was twenty-nine. A former powerlifter with shoulders that looked carved from stone and a habit of standing too close when she spotted me. She wore fitted black tank tops that showed her arms, and gym shorts that made me forget how to count plates.

Tonight was leg day. Or it was supposed to be. I’d been on the bench — Sloane said I needed “auxiliary chest work” — and she was spotting me, her hands hovering near the bar, her face inches from mine as I pressed.

“The gym is empty,” I whispered, racking the barbell after my third set, my chest heaving, my sports bra soaked through. “The front door is locked. And your spotter hands are on my stomach, not the bar.”

Sloane didn’t speak. She just helped me sit up, then pushed me back down — gently, firmly, completely in control. She leaned over me, her hand on my ribcage, her thumb tracing the edge of my sports bra.

“If the security guard does his rounds,” I breathed, my back arching off the bench as her fingers slid under the elastic, “he’ll see my trainer’s hands inside my sports bra. He’ll see your mouth on my neck and the barbell forgotten on the rack and he’ll know that this isn’t a workout. This isn’t training. This is—”

She turned my face toward her with a hand on my jaw. Her mouth found mine. A kiss that tasted like pre-workout and sweat and the exact moment when a set becomes something that can’t be counted in reps. Her tongue slid against mine, her hand sliding from my jaw to my throat to the waistband of my leggings.

The security flashlight swept across the front windows — a beam of yellow light cutting through the dark gym, illuminating the mirrors, illuminating us.

Sloane didn’t panic. She just pressed her other hand over my mouth, her fingers sliding inside my leggings, finding me wet and ready and completely unprofessional.

“Quiet,” she whispered against my ear, her thumb circling my clit with a precision that made my vision blur. “He’s checking the locks. He can see the bench. He can’t see what I’m doing to you in the shadows.”

She made me come on the workout bench, her fingers inside me, her mouth on my breast, the security light passing over us again and again while she worked me with a rhythm that matched my heartbeat. I came with her hand over my mouth, my cry swallowed by her palm, my body shaking so hard the bench rattled against the rubber floor.

After, she helped me up. Handed me my water bottle.

“Same time Thursday?” she asked, her voice casual, completely trainer-like.

I nodded. I couldn’t speak.

I still train with Sloane at midnight. The security guard still does his rounds. And every time that flashlight sweeps across the windows, Sloane finds a new way to make me come in the dark. She says my endurance has improved. She says my “mind-muscle connection” is “off the charts.”

She’s right. I can now hold a plank for four minutes. And I can hold my silence while she destroys me, which is a completely different kind of strength.
