Some kindnesses you never forget — even if you can't remember the name of the person who showed them to you.
In 2022, Karoline Kinjorski boarded a Delta flight in the middle of grieving, and a flight attendant did something small that carried her through the darkest hours. Nearly four years later, a viral search brought them face to face again.
A Cup of Tea at 30,000 Feet

Kinjorski doesn't remember much about that flight — grief makes everything a blur. But she remembers how the flight attendant made her feel. The Detroit-based crew member searched every nook and cranny at the back of the plane to find a tea bag, then left it with a handwritten note: 'Whatever you need, please let us know.'
That small gesture — a warm cup of tea and a few honest words — let Kinjorski finally get some sleep after a restless, heartbroken night.
The Note She Couldn't Throw Away

A little over a month ago, Kinjorski pulled a book off her shelf — the same book she carried on that 2022 flight. Tucked inside was the flight attendant's handwritten note, still there after all these years.
She took it as a sign. 'This person should know how I feel about them. It's time to make a video.' In August, she took to TikTok and Instagram to share her story, hoping the internet could help her find the woman whose name she never knew.
The Reunion Nobody Could Have Scripted

The videos gained traction as strangers shared their own stories of kindness in grief — but weeks passed without a match. Kinjorski almost gave up. Then, through a connection with a member of the Delta team, the two women were finally identified.
On September 14, Melissa Sausaman and Karoline Kinjorski reunited at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Four years after a cup of tea and a note, the woman who comforted a grieving stranger finally heard what it meant. 'When you're grieving, everything's a blur, but you remember people who see you,' Kinjorski said.
