The Pen Name

The blog was called Midnight Confessions, and it was anonymous. No photos. No real names. Just stories — explicit, perfect, devastating stories about two women who shouldn’t want each other but couldn’t stop. I’d found it six months ago, scrolling through Tumblr at 2 AM, lonely and desperate and completely addicted from the first paragraph.

The writer called herself Vixen_22. She posted twice a week — Tuesdays and Fridays at midnight. Her stories were about a stepsister who seduced her father’s new wife, about midnight kitchen encounters, about balcony risks and elevator power outages. They were filthy. They were perfect. And they were, I realized with a slow dawning horror that made my hands shake, about me.

About my freckle on my left hip. About the way I bit my lip when I was nervous. About the black silk robe I wore when I couldn’t sleep. About the exact layout of my bedroom, my bathroom, the garden where I’d kissed her six months ago and then pretended it never happened.

I’d been reading her latest chapter — The Balcony, Part 3 — when I heard the door open. Sloane walked in wearing a silk robe, her blonde hair wet from a shower, her phone in her hand.

“You’re Vixen_22,” I whispered, not looking away from the screen. The story described exactly what I was wearing. Exactly how I was sitting. Exactly what I’d been thinking ten seconds before she walked in. “You’ve been writing those stories about me. The ones I read every night. The ones that make me touch myself and pretend it’s your hand. The ones where you describe my body like you’ve memorized it. Like you own it.”

Sloane didn’t speak. She just walked over, reached past me, and closed the laptop. The room went dark — only moonlight through the curtains, only the sound of our breathing, only her presence beside me on the bed.

“You knew I was reading,” I breathed, turning to face her in the darkness. “You knew I was fantasizing about you. You saw my comments — ‘more please’ and ‘this made me come so hard’ and ‘I wish this was real.’ You saw them. And you wrote exactly what I wanted. Every scene. Every position. Every word that made me come apart in the dark. You wrote them. For me. About me. With me.”

She leaned down. Her cheek pressed against mine, warm and wet from the shower, smelling like jasmine and something darker. She turned my face toward hers with a hand on my jaw, her thumb tracing my lower lip with a gentleness that was completely at odds with the filth she’d been writing about me.

She kissed me. Slow. Knowing. A kiss that tasted like secrets and pixels and the exact moment when a fan meets her creator and realizes that the fantasy was always real. Her tongue slid against mine, her hand sliding from my jaw to my throat to the hem of my tank top.

The bedroom door opened.

“Goodnight, girls!” My mother’s voice, sleepy, completely unaware. “Don’t stay up too late!”

“Night, Mom!” I called out, my voice strangled as Sloane’s hand slid under my tank top, finding my breast, my nipple, pinching with a precision that spoke of every story she’d written, every comment she’d read, every night she’d imagined exactly this moment.

“Goodnight,” Sloane added, her voice perfectly steady, completely at odds with the fingers that were currently rolling my nipple between her thumb and forefinger.

The door closed. Sloane pushed me back onto the mattress. She climbed over me, her silk robe falling open, her body pressing against mine with a heat that was completely devastating.

“Now,” she whispered against my mouth, her hand sliding down my stomach, under my underwear, finding me wet and ready and completely at her mercy, “I’m going to show you what I couldn’t write. What I couldn’t describe in words. What I’ve been saving for the moment when you finally knew it was me.”

She made me come three times that night. The first time with her fingers, pressing inside me with a rhythm that matched the stories she’d written — slow, then fast, then devastating. The second time with her mouth, her tongue finding me with a precision that no writer could describe, no matter how talented. The third time with both — her fingers inside me, her tongue on my clit, her eyes looking up at me in the moonlight with an expression that said I was her masterpiece, her creation, her obsession.

After, she opened the laptop again. Started a new document. Typed with one hand while the other traced patterns on my stomach.

“Chapter one,” she said, reading aloud. “The night she found out. The night I stopped writing fiction and started writing us.”

She still writes. Every Tuesday and Friday at midnight. But now the stories are about us — real, explicit, completely true. And every time I read them, I know exactly how they end. Because I’m living them. With her. In this bedroom. Where the only thing more forbidden than our love is the truth that we both wanted it from the very first word.
